    Cons -

    • If you’d go in my profile you can see I’ve been to hundreds of hotels but this one was far one of my worst experiences It started with our flight that was one day earlier and the hotel wouldn’t agreed to refund our money even that we contacted them more than a week ahead ! After a long fight the agreed to pay us that night cost (200$) in hotel credit The hotel was super expensive restaurant wise and amenities and after transportation we were left with less than half of it They made you sign a contract that confirms that you aware of the noice which initially you think it make sense ( because it’s on a Main Street) but don’t share that there is construction work right on the side of the building from 6 AM! The pool on the roof is full with pigeon poo and fathers and the restaurant and pool is in the 4th and 5th floor that means if you have any kind of disability you can’t enjoy any of that After telling it to the receptionist which agreed that it’s not fair we got nothing but a “ my manager tells me there is nothing we can do “ disrespectful and definitely not worth the money “
    • The bed was a little too firm for us but that’s been a recurring trend across our travels in Tanzania.
    • Not accessible for all

My partner and I were ill during our stay but the staff were very helpful and discreet. The rooftop terrace/restaurant and pool were lovely. Food was tasty!

There is not a lot of shade on the rooftop.

Nice little plunge swimming pool with a great view.

A lot of steps to climb but keeps you fit

Everything! Location in the heart of Stone Town is great! The staff is extremely kind and helpful! The room is cosy and comfortable. The swimming pool on the rooftop terrace is a fantastic place to enjoy a cocktail.Special thank to Abela working during our breakfast time. She is the kindest!

The sound isolation could be better.

Upendo is a way cool hotel with a fantastic restaurant and uber-cool rooftop pool and bar overlooking Stone Town. The staff provide excellent service and the hotel is well located close to all the tourist attractions in Stone Town.

    Nothing!

    9MadouPosted on: 2-1-2025

We had a wonderful stay at Upendo house. The staff is great and the rooftop with pool is the best way to cool down from the heat and a great place to watch the sunset.

Very good location in Stone Town. We had a very nice superior room. Very clean, not very big but quite enough. Bathroom had a good shower and also a bath tub. Breakfast was good, you could choose from a several types, like english or american. We also had dinner at the restaurant. There are only 4 sunbeds but while we were there there was always space. My husband had a massage and it was good. All the staff was really good.

It would be nice to have a elevator but they helped us with the bags. We had a evening flight out of Zanzibar and my husband was feeling unwell so a aircondition would have been good in their public places. There is AC in the lobby but the lobby is small with only 2 chairs.

We loved the design and location of Upendo House. They also helped us arrange for a day trip to Upendo Beach where we were treated just like we were guests there - they also helped us arrange a fishing day trip for my father, husband and son. Both Upendo House and Upendo Beach restaurants are great, albeit, slow. We loved the rooftop pool at Upendo House. I splurged on a massage at Upendo House and it was EXCELLENT! The rooms are small, but Stonetown is tight, so we expected that. Micky, Krishna, and Benjamin were so hospitable and helpful. The robust airconditioning was very welcome. The location put us close to the night food market where we enjoyed multiple nights of kebabs and chicken shawarma - YUM! The staircase (no elevator) was difficult for my 80-yr old parents, but we expected that. The staff put my parents on the 1st floor so that was very helpful for us.We are so grateful for the hospitality and consideration of the staff.

Hotel is very small and clean

We did not sleep well because the hotel is located next to a bar and restaurant, which was too loud for us to fall asleep. Additionally, construction work started early in the morning, waking us up even earlier.

Venue decor amazing!!!Roof top area superb, trully tops!!!!. Room comfortable and always clean. Breakfast had lots of options and very yummy. Can tell there is a resident chef.

Reception guy Benji was not friendly.Resturant waitress was horrible. Also extremely unfriendly and seemed irritated everytime we asked for anything. Rooms has no mirrors - a bit annoying when dressing up and bar fridge not working, everything was hot inside.

Location- central to atmosphere of Stonetown. Staff- v friendly and obliging including facilitating early check in. Rooms are nicely decorated- small but well designed with fridge and tea coffee which was high quality. Breakfast was excellent and the rooftop bar was perfect spot for sundowners.

WiFi was very patchy. There is construction next door but only during the day and Stonetown is generally a lively city so it’s never going to be a quiet location - that’s not the nature of it so it worked well for me as I valued being in the historic centre.

Bar and pool. Great restaurant Great view Location !Breakfast

A lot of construction noise from building site across the road. Chose room off the street. Would have been good if hotel informed of this.

    6AhmedPosted on: 11-15-2024

It was clean and good, and the staff was friendly. The hotel's location is more than amazing.

The noise is high there, internally and from outside.

Lovely hotel - exceptional food and service from staff. The rooftop infinity pool is a definite highlight!

Unfortunately lots of construction work outside my window - it was noisy.

Friendly staff who were invested in giving you a good experience. Great location with beautiful view from the top terrace. Room was clean and beautifully decorated.
